The Community-Clinic in Teshie
Teshie is a town in the catchment area of the capital Accra. The town is now known through the inauguration of the Kofi Annan Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) in the year 2004. Besides of many statesmen also the former German chancellor Gerhard Schröder joined the inauguration. Moreover Teshie is known for its creative coffin-carpenters, that make colourful original designed coffins in form of air planes, boats, or also coke-bottles.
The entire region is growing rapidly. The state cannot keep up with the speed. In the new development areas, there is a lack of public facilities. But also in the old town a clinic doesn't exist.
The citizens of Teshie have organized themselves and established an association with the name Teshie Mannoyaa Kpee. The aim of the association is to develop the town e.g. by building of health stations and schools. The executives of the Teshie Mannoyaa Kpee consists of educated people with much life-experience and contacts. They have raised funds and have organized workers in order to build a local clinic. Donations collected by emigrants living in Kiel, have been gratefully accepted.
Since some years now a health station is operating with the voluntary help of trained doctors and nurses. The health station is poorly equipped and needs renovation.
Currently, next to the health station a community clinic is in construction, that should be used as midwifery-center. The construction is almost completed and can be expected to be inaugurated this year. But the resources are limited and do not allow continuous work.
Here, the German-Ghanaian development-aid-association tries to help with fact-donations. The Community Clinic in Teshie requires complete medical equipment, an emergency power generator and an ambulance-vehicle for emergencies.
